Teachers Mentoring Teachers

Information For The Host School

Your volunteer will be coming from a culture very different from yours. He or she may not be used to using electricity and will need support learning to use some electrical appliances we take for granted. Your food is different to what he/she is used to and he/she may crave for foods from home.

Your culture and environment is very different. Please don’t assume they will know how to catch a bus or go shopping. They will need support in all aspects of the American way of life until they feel confident to have a go alone. They are not used to cold weather and will need warm clothes even when you think it is not cold.

Having a volunteer teachers assistant can be a very rewarding and enjoyable experience if you are well informed as to what to expect from your volunteer and you are able to cross cultural differences to make your volunteer feel welcome, cared for and at home in this very different environment.

Volunteer Teacher Assistants

Background

Schools are very different and you will need to make your expectations clear and within the limitations of your volunteers capabilities. You will find your volunteer a willing, hard worker who learns quickly and will be an asset to your school if you support them in their learning process.

Church will be different for them, but your volunteer will be able to share with you experiences you read only about in mission news.

This can be a positive, life changing experience for volunteer and hosts.
